🧼 Örgü Ürün Bakımı: El Örgüsü Kıyafetlerin Ömrünü %90’a Kadar Uzatmanın Yolları

Every stitch that has been worked on deserves to be protected.
Hand-knitted products, are not just garments; they are special pieces knitted with time, effort, and love. The longevity of these products contributes to sustainability and demonstrates respect for this labor. However, if knitted items are not cared for properly, these precious pieces can easily wear out. At Tuffhandicraft, we emphasize the importance of proper care to ensure our products last for years.
1. Stick to Washing Instructions
Each knitted item has a different yarn structure. Therefore, it's important to carefully read the care instructions along with the item. In general:
- Hand washing is the safest method.
- Use gentle cleansers such as soap or baby shampoo in lukewarm water that does not exceed 30°C.
- If it is to be machine washed, use the "hand wash" program and protective washing net use.
- Absolutely avoid bleach and aggressive detergents.
2. Dry without squeezing or applying
After washing, never try to squeeze or twist the products to remove the water. Instead:
- Remove excess water by laying it on a flat towel.
- Let it dry naturally in the shade and on a flat surface.
- Hanging the garment on a hanger can distort its shape — especially the shoulders will stretch.
3. Forget to Iron or Steam Clean

Most knitted items are not suitable for ironing. High heat can burn the yarn or distort its shape.
- If ironing is necessary, apply it at very low temperature and always with steam over a cloth.
- Alternatively, it is safer to remove wrinkles by steaming them from a distance with a steam iron.
4. Storage: Fold, Hang
There are a few important points to consider when storing knitted items that you will not use for a long time:
- Do not hang; the product will sag under the weight and deform.
- Fold it and store it in a dry, clean and breathable cloth bag or box.
- Non-breathable bags can cause yellowing and bad odors, especially in natural fibers.
- Placing lavender sachets or cedar wood pieces against moths is a natural and effective solution.
5. What to Do in Case of Stains?
When a stain occurs, quick intervention is important for the care of knitted products.
- Pressing on the stain and wiping, rubbing or scrubbing may wear out the thread.
- Spot clean: clean only the affected area with warm soapy water.
- Avoid bleach and stain removers on colored items.
6. Care During Seasonal Transitions
If you use your knitted items seasonally, be sure to wash and air them before storing them.
- The risk of mold, bad odor or thread deterioration increases in products that are stored damp or dirty.
- Ventilation is very important, especially in wool-containing products.
Maintenance is a Must to Add Value to Handicraft
